Cannon Mountain is looking to implement a new cloud-based ski lift ticketing system this month, after a state Parks and Recreation proposal was approved by the Executive Council last week.
That system will allow the mountain to use reloadable RFID cards, which will be designed and operated by Colorado-based contractor Entabeni Systems, according to the proposal.
RFID cards are an alternative to paper lift tickets, and they are now the industry standard for outdoor recreation, the proposal said. They will allow the mountain to sell tickets online, control who can get on the lifts, and track data about usage.
This will replace the mountain’s current system, which the proposal said is unreliable and doesn’t offer accurate reporting. The proposal said this translates into a poor experience for mountain guests, and it means mountain employees have to enter data manually. The state is hoping to eliminate that under the new automated system.
Entabeni will be paid $1.67 million over the next four years for the new online system. All of the money will come from a combination of sales commissions and credit card processing fees.
